Winter can be harsh on our skin, leaving it dry, dull, and lacking that healthy glow. But fear not, because with a few simple tips and tricks, you can keep your skin looking radiant and glowing, even during the coldest months.
Here are some easy ways to maintain that healthy winter glow:
1. Hydrate 💧, hydrate 💧, hydrate 💧: One of the biggest challenges during winter is keeping your skin properly moisturized. The cold and dry air strip off its natural moisture, resulting in dryness and a dull complexion. Make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within. Additionally, if you have not already switch to a rich, nourishing butter based moisturizer like the popular and affordable Whipped Shea Butter by Made With Love Oils, and apply it liberally after a bath or shower to lock in moisture.
2. Exfoliate gently: Regular exfoliation is crucial to remove dead skin cells and promote cell turnover. However, in winter, be sure to use a gentle exfoliator to avoid further drying out your skin. Opt for a moisturizing scrub containing ingredients like Grapeseed Oil 🍇and Sweet Almond Oil such as the Lavender Bud & Dead Sea Salt Scrub by Made With Love Oils, as they help to slough away dead skin cells without stripping away moisture. Leaving your skin smooth and soft.
3. Protect your skin from the elements: Cold winds 🌬️, snow ❄️ , and low humidity can wreak havoc on your skin, so it's essential to create a protective barrier. Wear a scarf 🧣 , hat 🧢 , and gloves 🧤to shield your face and hands from the cold. Wear long thick socks 🧦 to prevent cold air from rising up your your legs from your ankles.
4. Load up on your antioxidants: Antioxidants play a vital role in maintaining healthy skin, as they help protect it from damage caused by free radicals. My daily intake of antioxidant rich foods includes a huge bowl of berries 🍓🫐with some fresh young coconut 🥥, especially the ones from THAILAND 🇹🇭 !! ( so sweet 🥹). However my local health food store doesn’t carry this all year round and in my personal experience I find that it is especially harder to find during the winter months. So as an alternative I would highly recommend Harmless Harvest brand coconut water. That stuff there is MAGIC 🪄 in a bottle! They use fresh young coconuts from THAILAND that go straight into the bottle as is, no additives or anything! Unfortunately this blog is not sponsored by Harmless Harvest, but totally should be 👀. Also be sure to not forget about leafy greens, and nuts. You can also incorporate a toner like the new Rose Toner Spray (launched soon) into your skincare routine to keep your skin tight and youthful.
5. Don't forget your lips and hands: Our hands and lips are often overlooked during winter, but they also suffer from dryness and cracking. Invest in a good lip balm like the nourishing Lemon & Honey Lip Balm by Made With Love Oils to keep those lips moisturized and ready for action 😏 . Our lip balm is made with ingredients like shea butter and beeswax, as they provide intense hydration and protection. As for your hands, be sure to always carry a travel size Whipped Shea Butter for your hands to make sure they stay hydrated. Your hands get washed many times per day and lots of soaps strip the natural oils away so keeping our Whipped Shea Butter handy will ensure you are able to replenish and lock in that moisture.
6. Take shorter, lukewarm showers. While a long, hot shower may be tempting in winter, it can actually strip away the natural oils from your skin, leading to dryness. Opt for shorter showers with lukewarm water to help maintain your skin's moisture balance. And did we already mention that showers should be followed up with that wonderful Whipped Shea Butter 😉
By following these simple tips, you can keep your skin looking radiant and glowing throughout the winter season. Remember to listen to your skin's needs and adjust your skincare routine accordingly. With a little extra care, you can achieve that healthy glow even when the temperature drops.
